Modernist complexity on a small scale

Technical toys are fascinating objects that offer gateways to understanding the societies in which they are produced and used. The present study deals with the Dandanah, a set of glass building blocks from the technical toys collection of the Deutsches Museum. This rare and idiosyncratic object, designed by renowned modernist architect Bruno Taut around 1920, expresses in material form a complex web of technological, educational and utopian ideas.
