Aircraft restoration

A special feature of the Flugwerft Schleißheim is the "glass workshop". Its employees are responsible for the restoration and preservation of all objects in the Deutsches Museum's aerospace collection. The workshop is designed in such a way that visitors to the Flugwerft can experience the workshop operations from a gallery.

The type of objects under the care of the aircraft workshop is diverse. There are "simple" aeroplanes made of wood with fabric covering from the early days of aviation as well as modern fighter planes full of electronics. This results in a wide variety of requirements for the workshop staff. Their training and knowledge are so wide-ranging that most of the work can be carried out by our own staff.
