Experience science firsthand
DNA visitors' laboratory
Under the guidance of early career scientists, everyone is invited to carry out their own experiments in the DNA visitors' laboratory and to handle a pipette and other laboratory equipment used in molecular biology.
Take part in our open programmes or book a course for a group. Our courses and programmes are usually held in German, but can be held in English on request. Feel free to contact us!

Understanding genetic research
The flattened white sphere, which appears to float under the ceiling of the entrance hall, is the first eye-catcher when you enter the Deutsches Museum. This "UFO" is the DNA visitors' laboratory. Here, everyone can slip into a white lab coat and carry out their own molecular biology experiments under expert guidance. In various courses, you can, for example, isolate your own DNA, carry out an antibody test or solve a fictitious crime using a genetic fingerprint. Participants learn how to use pipettes and other laboratory equipment and discover interesting facts about cell biology, heredity and genetic engineering.
Good to know:
- Programmes and courses are usually held in German. If you are interested in an English-language course, please contact us.
- The DNA visitors' laboratory is located in the entrance area and floats above the auditorium. Access is via a staircase (see photo above). Unfortunately, our barrier-free access lift is currently broken, we are working on repairing it.
- Regular open programme: 5 € participation fee plus museum admission - tickets available at the ticket offices and information desk.
- Offers for groups - bookable at the visitor service, for costs see the respective programme
