What is in the food? Starch, protein, sugar? In our Chemistry visitors' lab you can carry out chemical reactions to answer these questions in a very practical way. Learn how analytical chemistry works, what you need to be aware of in the chemistry laboratory and why there are always surprises.

The visitor laboratory is located in the centre of our Chemistry exhibition on level 1. You will need free participation tickets to take part in the workshop, which you can obtain from the information desk in the entrance area on level 0 on the day of the event.

Workshops in the open programme take place in the Chemistry Visitor Lab regularly on Tuesday afternoons on changing topics such as food analysis, plastics or alchemy. The programmes can also be booked for groups.

Safety note:

Our experiments are planned with the greatest possible care. If handled properly, the use of chemicals and laboratory equipment poses no risk. We do not use any hazardous substances in the laboratory that are prohibited for children or pregnant women.

Nevertheless, we would like to point out that you will sometimes be working with hazardous substances in a laboratory. Visitors are responsible for the risk of injury to children or pregnant women in the event of improper handling or use.

In case of doubt, the museum staff will decide on participation.
