Everyone is involved! The exhibitions, the workshops, the library, the archive, the education department, the collections management and many more are all part of the Deutsches Museum's 100th anniversary programme on Museum Island. For visitors, this means fun, excitement, variety and a festive atmosphere over the long weekend. And everyone is invited - free of charge!
The festival takes place indoors and outdoors
... and the Uferstraße next to the Isar will also be a venue. One of the main attractions here is likely to be the "Spacebuzz": a truck inside which you can travel into space with VR goggles on your head. The museum's workshops and various scientific institutions will also be offering hands-on activities on the Uferstraße.
There is an outdoor “knowledge stage” ("Wissensbühne") with science shows and events throughout the day. Another attraction: there is a glass crane gondola in the museum courtyard, which you can use to float up the museum façade.
There are also a number of attractions in the museum garden by the Corneliusbrücke - including bubble shows and face painting for younger children.
The area next to the rescue cruisers will be transformed into a beer garden with a music stage. And "Giesinger Bräu" has even produced its own beer edition with a special label for the museum anniversary.
Further highlights from the programme
There are tours of the museum's famous workshops and tours of the archive and library. In the exhibition building, there are special guided tours on the history of the museum and a small special exhibition of artefacts from the collection spread throughout the whole building. Special musical instruments from the museum are frequently presented. The museum's amateur radio operators will be there, as will their colleagues from the Broadcasting Museum in Cham, who will let guests listen to the radio as it was 100 years ago.
And you can even take a look at the museum's impressive construction site - something that will really only be available on this weekend. The French illustrator Lapin, who has drawn a book on the history and present of the museum, will also be a guest at the anniversary on the Museumsinsel, organising drawing workshops and signing his book.
