From October 3 to 5, 2025, the interactive installation FLOCK OF will be on view in our Forum. Every day from 10 am to 6 pm, 20 futuristic fish will glide through the museum’s airspace, inviting visitors to interact with them.

Art meets high-tech

FLOCK OF is an artistic project built on innovative sensor technology. Instead of portraying robotics as threatening or cold, the installation reveals an unexpected side of technology: gentle, poetic, and almost organic. Each fish measures around 1.5 meters, consists of a helium-filled balloon, and is powered by two motors. Using ultra-wideband (UWB) sensors, eight stations in the room track the exact positions of the fish. A software program then calculates their flight paths in real time, merging the individual movements into a harmonious swarm.

An immersive experience

What makes the installation unique: the swarm responds sensitively to its surroundings. Visitors can step inside and encounter the fish up close – with a maximum of 20 people at a time. This creates a direct, immersive experience that connects nature and technology in an entirely new way. During breaks, the fish rest on stands in the Forum, where they can still be admired outside the live performances.

An international project

FLOCK OF was conceived by bit.studio, a creative collective from Bangkok. The team brings together experts in robotics, machine learning, biomedicine, architecture, design, and animation. Their projects operate at the intersection of art and technology and have already been presented in Asia and Europe, including Bangkok, Seoul, and Linz.
