Specialised Information Service for Historical Studies

The Specialised Information Service for Historical Studies of the Bavarian State Library and the Library of the Deutsches Museum supports historical research by providing special literature (printed and digital) and offering a wide range of information services.

Project description

Since 2013, the DFG has successively replaced the system of Special Subject Collections (SSG) for the nationwide supply of specialised literature with the Specialised Information Services. Since 2016, the library of the Deutsches Museum has cooperated with the Bavarian State Library in the Specialised Information Service for Historical Studies, in which it represents the historical subdisciplines of the history of exact sciences, technology, and the environment. The Specialised Information Service provides literature and research services for historians throughout Germany and offers a wide range of services. These are available free of charge on the website historicum.net. In addition to participating in the German Historical Bibliography and processing acquisition and digitisation requests, the Museum Library is responsible for the History of Technology resource portal on historicum.net as well as offering a research portal for its range of subjects that searches seven subject databases simultaneously.
